Video side by side: Canon Rebel T1i vs. Nikon D90
Posted on 10. May, 2009 by planetMitch in T1i, Video
This afternoon, we found a very interesting comparison of the Canon Rebel T1i vs. Nikon D90. The videographer happened to have both cameras and passed them thru the same scenes. In the video, you’ll see the results from one, then the other then see them side by side.
Have a tip, a video, or a Canon Rebel T1i/500D product to announce? Give us a shout
My personal impression of this non-scientific side by side is that the Canon wins this one… the Nikon still seems to have a bunch of jelly (notice during the outdoor walking). Anti shake would help that out some I suspect.

On a recent job, I had a few minutes to play with the Canon Rebel T1i ($800). The T1i is Canon’s new entry level Digital SLR that also shots 720p HD Video. With only and few mins to play around, I put camera in full auto and started recording as I walked outside. I was impressed with how well it handled the transition from inside to out as well as the exposure and latitude.
There was also a Nikon D90 handy ($975). I thought it would make for an interesting comparison, so I repeated the shot with the D90 – also set to auto. I was surprised and how poorly the Nikon preformed. I was mainly disappointed by the way the auto Iris jerked around searching for proper exposure.
Keep in mind. this was NOT in any way a controlled or scientific comparison. Nor was any creative or artistic efforts employed. I was just taking a quick look and the cameras. After seeing the results, I thought I’d share.
